when you can’t trust your thoughts, trust the one who sees clearly 🤍

when you can’t trust your thoughts, trust the one who sees clearly 🤍

“trust in the lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
— proverbs 3:5–6, kjv

there are moments in life when your own mind can feel like the loudest room you’ve ever been in.

one thought says go.

another says stop.

one feeling says this must be right.

another says something feels off.

and before you know it, you’ve replayed the same situation twenty times, imagined every possible outcome, and somehow ended up even more confused than when you started. 😭

that’s the frustrating part about being human.

we want clarity so badly.

we want to know exactly what something means, what someone meant, what decision we should make, what god is doing, and how everything is going to turn out.

but scripture gently confronts us with something we don’t always want to hear:

our understanding has limits.

and instead of telling us to become better at predicting everything, god gives us a better place to rest.

him. 🤍

“lean not unto thine own understanding”

i used to read this verse and think it simply meant:

don’t overthink.

but it goes much deeper than that.

to lean on something means you’re placing your weight on it.

you’re expecting it to hold you up.

and so when scripture says not to lean on our own understanding, it’s not saying we should stop thinking, stop learning, or stop using wisdom.

it’s saying:

don’t make your own perspective the thing carrying the full weight of your life.

because we simply cannot see everything.

we see one conversation.

god sees the whole relationship.

we see today.

god sees what is coming.

we see what feels comfortable.

god sees what will shape us.

we see the closed door.

god sees what was behind it.

and sometimes the thing that feels like confusion is actually protection.

sometimes the delay is mercy.

sometimes the “no” you were disappointed by is the answer you’ll thank god for later.

we don’t always have enough information to understand what he is doing.

but he does.

your feelings are real — but they are not always directions

this one is important.

god gave us emotions.

there is nothing wrong with feeling deeply.

sadness is real.

fear is real.

excitement is real.

disappointment is real.

but something being real does not automatically make it reliable.

you can feel rejected and still be loved.

you can feel behind and still be exactly where god is working on you.

you can feel anxious and still be safe.

you can feel like nothing is changing while god is quietly moving things you cannot see.

that is why we have to be careful not to build our entire reality around whatever emotion is strongest that day.

our feelings can tell us what is happening inside of us.

but god’s word tells us what is true.

and those two things are not always the same. 🤍

surrender is not losing control

sometimes we hear the word surrender and imagine weakness.

like giving up.

like becoming passive.

like saying, “well, i guess nothing matters.”

but biblical surrender is not giving up.

it is giving over.

it is saying:

“god, i have been trying to carry this like the whole outcome depends on me, and i’m tired.”

there is something so freeing about realizing that you were never meant to know everything.

you were never meant to control every outcome.

you were never meant to perfectly predict the future.

you were never meant to be your own source of peace.

that role belongs to god.

and when you release the pressure to figure everything out, you make room to actually trust him.

surrender doesn’t empty your hands and leave them empty.

it empties your hands so god can fill them with peace.

“trust in the lord with all thine heart”

not after you’ve exhausted every other option.

not only when his plan makes sense.

not just when the answer matches what you wanted.

trust means allowing god’s character to become more certain to you than your circumstances.

that can sound something like:

“i don’t understand this, but i know god is faithful.”

“i don’t know what happens next, but i know he is already there.”

“i don’t know why this door closed, but i know he can redirect me.”

“i don’t know why i’m waiting, but i know waiting does not mean abandonment.”

this is the shift.

faith is not having all the answers.

faith is knowing who you are trusting when you don’t have them. 🤍

what happens when your thoughts start spiraling?

this is where it gets practical.

when your mind starts racing, we usually do one of two things.

we either believe every thought immediately…

or we try to fight the thoughts with even more thoughts. 😭

but there is another option.

bring them to god.

not every thought deserves agreement.

not every fear deserves authority.

not every scenario your mind creates deserves your attention.

instead of asking:

“what if this goes wrong?”

try asking:

“what has god already said?”

instead of:

“what if i’m not enough?”

remember who gives you your worth.

instead of:

“what if i make the wrong decision?”

pray for wisdom and trust that god is able to guide you even when you do not have perfect certainty.

you do not need to solve every thought.

some thoughts simply need to be surrendered.

there is rest in not knowing everything 🤍

jesus said:

“come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and i will give you rest.”
— matthew 11:28, kjv

sometimes the heaviness we are carrying is not physical.

it is the constant mental pressure of trying to manage everything.

trying to interpret everything.

trying to predict everything.

trying to make sure nothing goes wrong.

and eventually, you become exhausted.

because you are trying to do something only god can do.

know the whole picture.

there is a different kind of peace that comes when you can say:

“i do not know. but god does.”

and let that be enough for today.

this is part of what it means to be beloved 🤍

at beloved beauty, we talk often about identity.

about being known.

being loved.

being chosen.

being beloved.

but learning to live as someone who is loved by god also means learning to stop acting like everything depends on you.

a beloved daughter can ask for guidance.

a beloved daughter can admit she does not understand.

a beloved daughter can rest.

a beloved daughter does not need to force an answer just because uncertainty feels uncomfortable.

she can wait.

she can pray.

she can open scripture.

she can trust that her father sees what she cannot.

and there is something deeply beautiful about that kind of peace.

the world tells us confidence means knowing exactly what we are doing.

scripture shows us something better:

confidence can also look like saying,

“i don’t know what god is doing, but i know who he is.”

what to do when you don’t know what to do 🌿

when everything feels confusing, start small.

1. stop trying to force clarity.

sometimes we become so desperate for an answer that we start calling anything an answer.

pause.

give yourself permission not to know immediately.

2. bring the situation to god honestly.

you do not need impressive words.

tell him what you are afraid of.

tell him what you want.

tell him where you are confused.

and then ask him to shape your desires around his will.

3. return to scripture. 📖

god’s word becomes your anchor when your emotions are changing by the hour.

what is true about god?

what has he promised?

what wisdom has he already given you?

4. ask for wisdom, not just the outcome you want.

sometimes we pray,

“god, please make this happen.”

but a deeper prayer is:

“god, help me want what you want.”

5. move only as fast as peace and wisdom allow.

you do not have to rush because you are anxious.

sometimes faith looks like taking a step.

sometimes it looks like staying still.

a reminder for the girl who is overthinking everything

you do not need to know how the whole story ends to trust the author.

you do not need every question answered before you obey.

you do not need perfect clarity to be deeply loved.

your mind may be limited.

your perspective may be incomplete.

your feelings may change tomorrow.

but god does not.

his character does not.

his faithfulness does not.

his love does not.

so when your thoughts become loud, come back to what is steady.

his word.

his presence.

his character.

jesus. 🤍

and maybe today your prayer does not need to be complicated.

maybe it is simply:

“god, i don’t understand this, but i trust you more than i trust my own understanding.”

that is enough.

prayer 🤍

father,

you know how quickly i can get lost in my own thoughts.

you know how much i want answers, certainty, and control.

but today, i choose to place my trust in you.

when my understanding feels limited, remind me that yours is not.

when my emotions feel overwhelming, bring me back to what is true.

when i feel pressure to figure everything out, teach me to rest in the fact that you already see the whole picture.

help me stop carrying what belongs in your hands.

direct my steps.

give me wisdom.

give me peace.

and help me trust you even when i cannot yet see what you are doing.

i do not need to know everything.

i just need to know you.

in jesus’ name,

amen. 🤍

with love,
beloved beauty

you are known. you are loved. 🤍
